AUDIO TRIGGER
This area describes what an audio trigger is, and how to set one
up. We make extensive use of triggers, and it's a Freelance
requirement to have them set up for certain events.
definition
Within EQ there is a system setup where you can have it watch for phrases of text and play an audio sound file when the text matches the set phrase.
in game step-by-step
I tossed in some in game visuals here to make it easier, instead of
describing everything.
Below is the EQ Icon and related menu / submenu. Left clicking
on the EQ part, opens this menu. By clicking "Actions", it'll
open up the submenu that contains the "Audio Trigger" option which you
see in yellow.
Audio Trigger Window:

The "Pattern" box located in the above picture is where you enter
the phrase of text you want EQ to watch for.
Warning: Watch for
leading or trailing whitespace in your patterns. If there is any,
your trigger will not work. Whitespace is basically spaces
without characters, such as the space between these quotes " " is
whitespace.
The "Sound" box near the top right corner allows you to choose
a sound file that will be associated with the pattern. That
means, whenever there is a match of the pattern, the sound file will
play.
Note: If when you click the
"Sound" box, no list of sound files appears, check the "Trigger Set"
box directly above. Make sure this is set to "default".
Each EQ installation comes with a default set of sound clips and
setting this to default will make those sound clips show up in your
sound pull down list.
Once you have chosen a sound, you can click the "Play" button to test it.
If you're happy with that sound, then click the "Create"
button. Your audio trigger should now appear in the list below.
That's it. It's set up and you can close the Audio Trigger
window.
If you want to test your trigger, you can do so by typing the phrase
in any chat window and you should hear the sound chosen.
audio trigger editing
If you want to change your
pattern or sound for that particular trigger, you must select it from
the list first. Once it's selected, you can modify the "Pattern"
and "Sound" as you desire. Just remember to click "Apply" when
you make any change you want to save to your audio trigger.
creating your own sound files
This is just a optional reference section, where I'm giving a
pointer to an AT&T Text to Speech front end which will create .wav
files based on text you enter. It's useful for making your own
selective speech files and then copying them into your EQ Audio
Triggers/shared directory.

text triggers
For those who prefer a visual cue, instead of audio one, there is a 3rd party program which watches your log file and alerts you when certain messages appear. The difference is that when a pattern is found, you get the text rolling over your screen (with a customizable size/area option).
Although this is a 3rd party program. It DOES NOT go against
the EULA or anything. This has been confirmed by SOE on their
forums. I prefer audio triggers, so I havn't used this
program yet. However it's an alternative to those who don't
like using sounds for alerts.
Here is a couple advertising screenshots from Gamanern, the creator of GamTextTriggers:
Below is a couple of screenshots Bumkus took during a Performer event
in Demiplane. This gives you an idea of how the program shows the
text in action etc.
